FESTIVAL IN SANDAKAN


Sandakan residents of various races and religions. Every year, the town of Sandakan will be colored with various festival and during Malaysia's independence day on 31st of August, all residents gather to celebrate in the town. Racial diversity does not prevent them to celebrate and pay visit during others festival.

LOCAL FRUITS


There is a well-known fruit in Sandakan rarely found elsewhere in Malaysia. Among these are 'terap' and 'salak'. Other local fruits like durian, langsat, rambutan, guava, mango and banana become a major source of income of people live in the rural area of Sandakan. Local residents also use the fruit as a dessert to be served to guests who come to visit their home.

Besides the famous seafood, Sandakan also serves a variety of delicious dishes for tourist. Tourists can choose dishes from various tribes in Sandakan consisting of famous village and Chinese cuisines such as buras, fried rice, fried noodles, mee goreng basah, sate, ayam penyet, grill fish and many more. Famous Indian cuisine such as roti canai and roti cobra also become a major tourist choice.

THE TURTLE ISLAND PARK


THE TURTLE ISLAND PARK located 40 km north of Sandakan in the Sulu Sea and consist of Selingan, Bakungan Kecil and Gulisan islands. The park was built for the endangered green and hawksbill turtles. It gives the tourist rare oppurtunity to watch turtle landing and turtle hatchery. Accommodation and basic facilities are provided to the tourists at the Selingan Island. Overnight stay would be the best choice as the turtle landing usually occur after dusk and the peak season for turtle lay their eggs is between July and October when the sea is calmer.




SANDAKAN MEMORIAL PARK


SANDAKAN MEMORIAL PARK, the site that commemorates a tragedy and atrocity which struck Sandakan between January to August 1945. The Memorial Park was built to commemorate the death of approximately 2400 Australian and British prisoners of war held by Japanese during the Pacific war. Located about 11 km outside of Sandakan town, the former site of the notorious WWII prisoner of war camp now locates the suburb of Taman Rimba. The park also includes a small museum that serves as a memorial to the death prisoners. Every year, tourist especially Australian and British citizen came and pay their respect to the death prisoners.








KINABATANGAN ADVENTURE LAND


KINABATANGAN ADVENTURE LAND is tourist attraction giving a very interesting experience to enjoy nature. Many activities were organized such as the Kinabatangan river boat travel which give tourists a great pleasure to see wild animals and breathtaking nature live across the Kinabatangan river.





OCEAN KING SEAFOOD RESTAURANT


OCEAN KING SEAFOOD RESTAURANT is the biggest restaurant in Sandakan, located close to the town. This restaurant was built in 2001 and located in the coastal. Various kind of fresh seafood served at this restaurant that can give satisfaction to every customer who comes.
