SANDAKAN THE NATURE CITY

SANDAKAN, previously known as Elopura is the second-largest city in Sabah, East Malaysia, on the north-eastern coast of Borneo. It had served as a capital of the British North Borneo during the British colonial time. Sandakan is famously known as the gateaway for eco-tourism in Sabah such as Sepilok, The Turtle Island Park, the archaeological Gomantong Caves. Due to the rapidly growing population and development in Sandakan, business operations shifted away from the town centre to the suburbs sucah as Bandar Ramai-ramai, Bandar Leila, Bandar Kim Fung and Bandar Sibuga Jaya. in January 2003, an urban renewal project known as Sandakan Harbour Square was launched in an attempt to revive the town centre as the commercial hub in Sandakan. In early 2012, it completed and featured extra shoplots, a central market and fish market, a shopping mall (Sandakan Harbour Mall) and hotels.
